Winston: Welcome to 2014 Artist Spotlight of the month at North Coast Productions. I am Church and my friend Dustin Thomas.
Dustin Thomas: How you going?!
Winston: How you doing man?
Dustin: Good man. How you doing bro?
Winston: Good.
Dustin: I like the suspenders their like 10 out of 10.
Winston: Pretty flashy, right?
Dustin: Actually, 10 out of 5, let’s bring up the ratio.
Winston: Don’t have to do it that way (removes suspenders)
Dustin: Yeah! Ok, now we’re bowling.
Winston: Tell me man, you’re from Missouri originally?
Dustin: Missouri! Born in Missouri, raised in Minnesota, enlightened in Hawaii, and now globetrotting.
Winston: Yeah, what’s your connection to the southeast?
Dustin: Rochester. I spent a lot of time here as a kid and ever since I’ve been a “working musician” I’ve been playing for C4 and Sessions, played at Kathy’s all the time. So Rochester’s been good to me.
Winston: What inspires you musically?
Dustin: Oh man, it depends. It depends on the song, it depends on the day, it depends on what’s going on. I think I’m pretty externalized from most of the music I do create. There’s a lot of music that comes from heart and soul, from my story, from things I’ve experienced, from things I want to experience, from things that have happened or things I want to happen. There’s things like that. But there’s also a lot of my music that’s just observing the world and reflecting on it. Whether it’s looking at our current fiscal state in the United States, where one percent of the people have 99 percent of the money. People have to beg and be assaulted just for asking to have good schools and clean water, things like that, or there’s just the beauty of the third world – things that happen there, or being in love, or falling out of love, or learning about love, there’s so many things to write about.
Winston: Dustin, tell us how we can get a hold of you. What’s your contact info?
Dustin: It depends. Instagram is probably the funnest thing right now. DustinThomasXO, that’s where all the fun pictures are happening. Booking: dustinthomasmusic@gmail.com If you like all the words I tried to include in today’s session you could go to lovedustinthomas.com. That’s where there are many blogs and pages. All my music is there for free you can download like 50 songs and, yeah, hit me up on the internet.
Winston: We are at North Coast Productions saying sayonara, see you later. 2014 is going to be a fun year.
Dustin: It’s going to be a great year. Year of the horse! This was the year of the snake, shedding anything that doesn’t serve you. Year of the horse galloping. Move forward.
Winston: Thanks for tuning into this Artist Spotlight. How about we go play some music?
Dustin: Let’s go play some music. Awesome!
Winston: Sounds great to me, alright.
